9 People are fighting for their lives in Johannesburg hospitals after a taxi roll-over accident on the N 3 near the Leondale off ramp this morning at around 06h00. Details to the cause of the accident will remain a subject for police investigation. It is believed that the taxi was travelling on the N 3 north when disaster struck, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled several times. The twisted frame of the vehicle came to test on the centre median after ejecting the passengers across a large area.
When Netcare 911 and provincial paramedics arrived at the accident scene they found that two people had tragically died on impact due to the extensive injuries that they had sustained. After triaging the injured they established that 9 people were critically injured and a further 5 sustained serious injuries.
Doctors and medics worked fervently to stabilise the injured on scene. One of the critically injured patients was airlifted with the Netcare 1 helicopter to Charlotte Maxeke hospital for further treatment. The other patients were stabilised and then transported by ambulance to various hospitals for the care that they required.
