This morning, Netcare911 paramedics met with SPCA officials as well as the South African Police Search and Rescue Unit in Kempton Park to rescue a horse that had fallen into a storm water drain inspection hole in Tembisa.
According to the owner of the horse, it had been missing for three days when he found it in the hole.
The owner contacted local authorities and this morning an Urban Search and Rescue Team were dispatched to the area to rescue the horse.
The team comprised of fire and rescue personnel from Erkuhuleni and the Tshwane local municipality.
The team had to use a carborandum cutter, a concrete chainsaw, a generator, a TLB tractor and a jack hammer amongst other equipment to free the horse.
Netcare911 paramedics assisted the team by supplying them with a generator and a stethoscope to monitor the horse’s heart rate.
After four hours of hard work, the horse was finally freed and taken away by personnel from an organisation called The Society For Animals In Distress for further medical care.
