Fifteen people were injured, one woman critically, when the minibus taxi they were travelling in overturned on the M4 Ruth First Highway near the Blue Lagoon this morning. It is thought that the driver of the fully laden taxi lost control of the vehicle while heading north, veering from the roadway and slamming into a sign post and light pole.
The minibus taxi overturned and skidded to a halt on its side, completely blocking the Blue Lagoon off-ramp. The injured occupants had clambered from the wreckage and were seated at the roadside when Netcare911 Paramedics arrived. Pieces of aloe and frayed remains of the light pole littered the roadway.
The injured were treated and stabilised by Netcare911 Paramedics at the scene before they were rushed by ambulance to the King Edward VIII and Addington Hospitals for further care.
The road was closed while emergency service personnel cleared the scene.
