A fourteen-year-old boy is in a serious but stable condition after a near drowning at a Durban North eThekwini Municipality Pool this afternoon. It is thought that the boy had been swimming with friends when he got into distress.
eThekwini Municipal Lifeguards stationed at the pool were alerted when other bathers noticed that the boy had not surfaced, and was at the bottom of the pool. They pulled him from the water and started treatment while Netcare911 Paramedics raced to the scene.
He was treated and stabilised by Netcare911 Paramedics at the poolside before being transported by ambulance to Addington Hospital in central Durban for further treatment.
His condition remains serious but stable.
