Motorist killed in collision with bus on on M4

One man was killed and five pupils from a North Coast private school were injured when a school bus and a car collided head-on on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near the Sibaya Casino this afternoon.

It is thought that the light motor vehicle had been heading north when he attempted to overtake a slow moving vehicle. He moved into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into the bus.

The injured pupils were treated and stabilised by Netcare911 Paramedics at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital for further definitive care.

Traffic was closed on the M4 while emergency personnel cut the drivers body free from the wrecked car. eThekwini Metro firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the body.
