A ten-year-old girl drowned in the Lahee Park swimming pool in Pinetown yesterday.
It is thought that clear skies had prompted many to cool off in the municipal pool which was purported to have been crowded at the time the incident took place.
Lifeguards on duty at the pool were alerted to the girl’s distress by other bathers. They took to the water and managed to pull the lifeless girl to the edge. Once at the poolside they started CPR and called for the assistance of Netcare911 Paramedics.
A Netcare911 ambulance was first to arrive at the scene and took over care of the patient. Unfortunately the resuscitation attempt was unsuccessful and the girl was declared dead at the scene.
