A snarl-up on Friday between three vehicles resulted in a man loosing his life and a further 12 people being injured. Exact details of the accident remain speculative and a subject for police investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene and found that a taxi and two other vehicles collided at the intersection of Potgieter and Barrage streets in Van der Bijl Park this afternoon at around 17:25.
The taxi hurtled across the roadway and overturned, its twisted remains coming to rest some 70 meters down the road. All the passengers from the taxi were ejected from the vehicle and laid on the roadway.
After triaging the patients paramedics were faced with two patients that sustained polytraumatic injuries – 6 were seriously injured and 5 others escaped with minor injuries.
Netcare 911 paramedics tried to resuscitate one of the critically injured patients but he tragically died on scene due to the extensive injuries he had sustained. All the other patients were stabilised on scene and then transported to a nearby area hospital for further treatment.
