One man was killed and another critically injured when two light motor vehicles collided head-on on the R56 near Richmond this morning.
It is thought that one vehicle heading away from the city cut the corner and veered into oncoming traffic. The driver may have lost control of his car in wet weather conditions. The cars slammed into one another and left the road, both coming to rest on their roofs in tall brush.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find two critically injured men in their cars. After carefully extricating the man heading towards the provincial capital his condition deteriorated drastically and unfortunately he died as a result of his injuries.
The other driver was entrapped in his crushed car and was cut free by firefighters using rescue equipment. He was stabilised at the roadside by Netcare911 Advanced Life Support Paramedics Jack Haskins, Ashee Salik and their team before he was transported by ambulance to Edendale Hospital.
