Six pupils of the Temple Valley Secondary School, Verulam, were injured, three seriously by what appeared to be accidental shotgun fire this afternoon.
While circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear, police are investigating the matter after six learners were struck by shot, believed to have emanated from a gun mistakenly discharged in a school bag.
At the time of the incident students were lined the corridors of the school and were filing into classrooms. The shot rang out and pupils purportedly scattered.
The wounded were treated and stabilised at the scene by Netcare911 Paramedics before they were transported to the Osindisweni Government Hospital for medical care.
Paramedics were called to the scene by Reaction Unit South Africa officers.
