Members of the SAPS special unit squad were fired at by an alleged suspect this morning.
They went to arrest the man, who was suspected of numerous heinous crimes, at the Umbilo Holiday Flats is Clark road, when he opened fire on them. Return fire by the SAPS rendered the man with multiple critical wounds.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene, but upon arrival, the man showed no signs of life, and was declared deceased on the scene.
No injuries were reported of the SAPS members, or members of the public.
The Umbilo SAPS will further the investigation.
