Airlink found not guilty of George runway accident

Airlink George

SA Airlink is relieved it is not to blame for an aquaplaning accident at the George Airport in 2009.

An interim Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) report released on Thursday revealed problems with the runway and not the aircraft.

In December the airline’s 37-seater jet overshot the landing strip.

The report recommended the certification status of the runway be reviewed and that the use of sealants be prohibited.

Airlink CEO Robert Foster said they were glad they were not responsible for the accident.

“We’re all very relieved. We would prefer that the event did not happen at all, of course, and we wish there was a way to put the milk back in the bottle from both perspectives.”
