George airport has runway restrictions lifted

Airlink George 2

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said on Friday it was thrilled runway restrictions were lifted at the George Airport.

In 2009 the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) imposed a ban on aircraft landing in poor weather conditions after an SA Airlink jet overshot the runway.

A CAA reported revealed the surface of the runway was to blame for an aircraft aquaplaning.

Acsa has also announced the resurfacing of the runway was finalised with an ultra-thin friction layer applied to 1.8km of the runway.

Acsa said it was delighted any aircraft travelling to George could land in bad weather conditions.

The company described the last three months as gruelling and a bad period for business.
