An Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife field ranger is in a serious but stable condition in the Netcare Bay Hospital after he was gored by a Buffalo in the Hluhluwe Game Park this morning.

Circumstances around what transpired are speculative, and it is thought that the man was on patrol when he happened upon the Buffalo. The animal was allegedly startled and charged at the ranger, striking him on the side as he attempted to flee.

He sustained two significant puncture wounds on his leg from the animal’s horns. Possible limb fractures were also suspected. The animal moved away after the attack and he radioed for assistance.

Thereafter he was treated and stabilised at the scene by Netcare911 Paramedics before he was transported by ambulance to the medical facility for the urgent care he required.
