A man is fighting for his life in a Bethlehem hospital after being trapped in a farm dam on the R76 near Bethlehem this morning at around 09h00. It is purported that the tractor driver lost control and plunged into a dam that had partially frozen over. The tractor overturned trapping the man in the freezing water.
Paramedics arrived on scene, realising that the man is suffering from Hypothermia and unable to asses if he had sustained any further injuries, rescuers had to brave the cold and ice to connect chains from another tractor to hoist the heavy farm implement off the patient.
Paramedics worked ardently to stabilise the patient on scene and then transported him to a hospital in Bethlehem for the treatment he required.
