ER24 paramedics responded to a block of flats in Greenpoint yesterday evening after a call from the local authorities for a man that was disturbing the peace. The initial call may have been placed by a resident in the block of flats due to the commotion that was coming from the man’s apartment.
When the paramedics arrived on the scene, the police had already gained access to the apartment, the door had to be broken down, as it was unclear as to whether the man was inside and whether he had hurt himself or not. According to them, there was water flooding out from underneath the door.
The thirty five year old man was behaving extremely aggressively toward the police and paramedics, and he had bricks in his hands which he threatened to throw at them. Paramedics also stated that according to bystanders, there had been water flowing out from his flat since around 3pm that afternoon. The inside of the flat was also completely destroyed. Furniture had been broken, crockery had been smashed, and the place was in utter disarray.
After initially trying to calm the man, and convince him to allow them to take him to hospital, he became even more aggressive, and they took the necessary action. They ended up heavily sedating the man, and then loading him into the ambulance for transport to hospital.
It is still unclear as to what went on with the young man that afternoon, but it is believe that he had attempted to assaulted his mother the previous day. The police will be investigating the events further.
