Two people died in a plane crash as they travelled from Nelspruit in Mpumalanga to Hoedspruit in Limpopo, the SA Search and Rescue Organisation (SASAR) said on Thursday.
SASAR’s aeronautical rescue co-ordination centre was contacted after the light aircraft failed to arrive at its destination, said spokesperson Santjie White.
A search helicopter discovered the wrecked aircraft around 07:43 on Thursday.
Both occupants of the aircraft were killed in the crash.
The SA Airforce, the Mountain Club of SA, the police and emergency services assisted in the search and rescue operation.
White said the community at the Hoedspruit airfield were tasked with informing the families of the deceased. It was unclear whether this had been done yet.
