An incident occurred today at approximately 11:00 in the Cape Town provincial offices. Allegedly a fire broke out in one of the kitchens. According to one of the workers in the kitchen the fire originated at one of the deep fat fryers when the oil caught fire. A massive cloud of smoke engulfed the room as workers rushed out of the area.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, Roland Street fire department was already attending to the flames and treating some of the workers. Whilst most of the effected personnel were only coughing due to the cloud of smoke they had to run trough, one gentleman had sustained significant smoke inhalation. The paramedics then treated the patient on scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
