Paramedics had to work quick and accurate today at the Landsdown fire station when one of their collages clutched his chest and collapsed. His friends who were on duty fireman at the time and also trained as basic- and intermediate paramedics, jumped to the aid of their friend.
The paramedics quickly established that the man, a collage and on duty fireman in his late thirties, had no pulse and was not breathing. Using their expertise and training they quickly started resuscitation efforts on their collage. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene Metro ambulance services including the Vincent Palloti Life paramedic where desperately trying to save the life of the man.
Resuscitation on the gentleman resulted in him getting a pulse back twice, before crashing again. However the efforts of the entire emergency services in attendance paid off when the man got a steady pulse back and maintained it all the way to hospital where he was admitted.
It’s not often and most of the time a heartbreaking occurrence when EMS personnel have to treat their own, but it’s on days like today when events like these give new meaning to the words “Brothers in Arms”
