Zimbabwean police confirmed to Eyewitness News on Friday that a South African businessman has died after being trampled by an elephant in Zimbabwe.

Donald Hornsby died from serious injuries after being tossed into the air and then trampled on by an enraged elephant in the Kariba District.

Hornsby was said to have been fishing in the Kings Camp Siyakhovu area with a group of friends.

It is believed he tried to photograph a herd of elephants when a bull suddenly attacked him.

It was understood that the bull was guarding a calf at the time of the incident.

Family members and the victim’s friends said they were shocked by his untimely death.

His body is currently at the Kariba mortuary and arrangements have been made to fly his remains back to South Africa.
