A 10-year-old boy burnt to death in the caravan in which he had been sleeping near the Free State town of Theunissen, Beeld newspaper reported on Monday.
The caravan in which Louis van der Linde and three others were sleeping caught alight in the early hours of Sunday morning near the Erfenis Dam.
A man and two children sharing the caravan with the boy were dragged from it by family and friends sleeping in a nearby tent.
But before Van der Linde could be rescued the burning caravan collapsed on top of him, burning him to death.
The man and two children sustained burns and smoke inhalation.
The report quoted police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng as saying that the cause of the fire would be investigated and an inquest held.
