New centralized aviation safety system to reduce risk of accidents

The South African Civil Aviation Authority on Friday said its new centralised safety reporting system should help prevent any future aircraft disasters.

The new technology was implemented this week.

It provides a platform for the public, pilots and air traffic controllers to report unsafe activities and situations that could lead to an accident.

CAA spokesperson Louise Stols said they hoped to identify possible hazards well in advance.

“The idea around this new system is to have a risk-based approach for looking at reducing aircraft accidents. Statistically this methodology has been tried and tested in our industry,” she said.
