A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this morning on the Hoogstede road near Wellington. It is unclear as to how exactly the collision occurred, but it involved two bakkies.
The bakkies allegedly collided head on, on the dusty farm road. According to on scene paramedics the vehicles sustained a large amount of damage and the one was found in a ditch next to the road. Both vehicles had one occupant each and both had sustained significant injuries. The one driver however was found outside of his vehicle and had sustained significant injuries to his upper body.
When the ER24 paramedic arrived at the scene Metro ambulance services were already attending to both patients. The paramedic immediately identified the need for rapid transport to a hospital and there for dispatched the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene.
Within minutes the Medicopter landed at the intersection of the R44 and the R312. The patient was then airlifted to Cape Gate Medi-Clinic where the trauma team awaited his arrival. The second patient was transported to a different medical facility by road.
