Less than four hours after the first truck accident on the N3 north bound where a truck driver lost his life, a second accident on the N3 south bound opposite the BP Oasis has left a driver in a serious condition this morning.
ER24 paramedics along with other emergency services arrived on the scene and found a truck which had been transporting oxygen had crashed into the back of an articulated truck that was stationary at the time of the crash. The driver, who was entrapped, needed the expertise of the Fire Department to help extricate him. The Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were used to extricate the patient from the cabin.
The man had suffered possible neck and back injuries and a possible broken leg. The patient was stabilised and transported to Life Entabeni Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The emergency and left hand lane were closed to traffic due to this accident but all necessary authorities were on the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
