An unidentified man drowned in front of the Cape Grace Hotel at the V&A Waterfront on Thursday afternoon, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Thursday.
Police divers found the man’s body after security guards and various bystanders saw him fall into the water.
“According to unconfirmed reports, security guards may have attempted to prevent the victim from jumping into the water but it is not clear yet if the victim jumped or fell into the water,” NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
A bystander and two sailors apparently also jumped into the water to rescue the man before he disappeared.
An inquest docket was opened.
