Two people have drowned at KwaDukuza on the north coast. Chief of Fire and Emergency at KwaDukuza Municipality, Adrian Bans, says the two drownings happened on beaches which had no lifeguards.
He has appealed to bathers to swim or surf in the designated areas where there are lifeguards. Bans added: “Do not drink and go to the sea, sea and alcohol do not mix.”
Meanwhile, the employer of a man who drowned after he fell off a horse at Noordhoek Beach in the Cape Peninsula says it was a freak accident. The man was riding with other staff members of a racehorse training stable in a Marine Protected Area when he fell. He is from Masiphumelele near Fish Hoek.
The Dunes Riding and Racing Stables’ Mike Stewart says, “He was a competent horse rider. He was 35. It was a tragic and very freakish accident.”
