A serious incident occurred this afternoon at a building on the corners of Chiappini and Somerset road in the Cape Town CBD area. It is still unclear as to how the incident occurred, but an unknown elevator repair and Service Company received a call out regarding an elevator which was faulty.

With the workers still attending to the problem on the elevator the cable allegedly snapped and the elevator fell three floors before colliding with the ground level. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene local fire and rescue services including Metro rescue services were already at the scene attending to the injured. One of the workers was entrapped in the wrecked elevator and needed to be removed with the use of specialized equipment.

All three workers sustained severe injuries to the lower extremities and were treated and stabilized at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility. The appropriate authorities will be investigating the incident.
