Three people have been killed in an accident on the N1 highway near Leeu-Gamka in the Karoo in the early hours of this morning. Western Cape traffic spokesperson, Kenny Africa, says a taxi overturned after it overtook another vehicle while driving in the direction of Cape Town.
Four other people have been seriously injured while seven others suffered slight injuries. Africa says the driver of the taxi died in the accident.”The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. Three people in this accident died. The driver, a woman, and a youngster in the taxi died. Luckily there was not any another vehicle involved.”
Meanwhile, traffic has been brought to a stand still on the R71 Tzaneen by-pass in Polokwane, Limpopo. This after a cash-in-transit vehicle collided with a car.
The accident happened despite traffic officials controlling traffic at the traffic light intersection. A queue of about two kilometres on the R81 from Giyani and the N1 has been formed.
The congestion is also delaying VIP’s going to the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Traffic officials say no one has been injured. Emergency personnel are at the scene clearing the fuel spillage on the road.
