Two Workers Injured after Three Tons of Steel Rolled over their Legs

Rear shot 1
Two workers sustained serious injuries this morning at a steel plant near the Cape Town International airport. The two men were coordinating a job which they do on a daily basis when a alleged malfunction caused three tons of steel bars to roll over their legs.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the two gentlemen removed from under the steel bars and in severe pain. A on site nurse had started with medical treatment. Due to the severity of the injuries and the distance to the nearest appropriate medical facility the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Whilst on scene paramedics stabilized the injured workers, the Medicopter landed at the scene to airlift the most critically injured male to hospital. The other man was transported to the same hospital, but with an ambulance due to his injuries being less severe than his colleague.

Both men had sustained significant injuries to their lower extremities and will be admitted to hospital for further observations.
