While cooking supper things changed rapidly for a thirty eight year old man after he knocked over his paraffin stove and sustained critical burns to his body. The incident took place in Lamontville just outside Durban this evening.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and were escorted down to the room where the man was found seated on the floor with critical burns to his body. Paramedics assessed the patient and found that he had sustained second and third degree burns to about eighty percent of his body. Burn shields were placed on the patient while advanced life support intervention was been performed on the patient. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical condition where trauma staff was waiting to take over the medical care.
It is believed as per the family, the man was cooking supper when he may have had a fit which he suffers from and knocked over the paraffin which went over his body. the family tried to move him away from the paraffin but was too late, the damage had already been done.
