Update from Eyewitness News
Unlimited Dusi Canoe Marathon Chairman Cameron McKenzie has emerged unscathed following a gyrocopter accident.
McKenzie and a passenger were flying along the race route when an emergency landing went wrong, resulting in the crash.
Race spokesperson Ray de Vries, who was on the scene, said the two only sustained a few bumps and bruises.
“They haven’t been hurt. They have bruises, they are shocked, but no medical attention required. I flew in on a helicopter as soon as I heard about it and we air-lifted them back to Pietermaritzburg.”
“Thankfully, they are both fine,” he said.
