17 people were injured this evening when a construction vehicle overturned on the N1 highway near the Allandale off ramp.
Paramedics from ER24 that arrived first on the scene initially found people scattered across the side of the highway. Paramedics immediately closed off the highway to avoid further injuries to the patients.
Upon assessment paramedics found that most of the people sustained possible back and neck injuries along with multiple cuts and bruises. All of the patients were moved to the side of the highway before the road was reopened for traffic. Nine of the occupants were treated on the scene and eight others were transported to hospital for further medical management.
According to bystanders on the scene it appeared as if the vehicle suddenly swerved and then overturned. Another bystander explained that the vehicle tumbled on its side before coming to a standstill on the highway with construction tools scattered around it.
