A Pretoria woman sustained serious head injuries while out on a diving trip at the Umkomaas river mouth on the Natal South coast Yesterday afternoon. A group of about 11 divers went out on a boat and at backline capsized. Other boats went out through the rough surf to rescue the divers and bring them back to shore.
Netcare 911 paramedics, life guards and N S R I was called to the scene to assist and when they arrived at the dive site the divers were taken to a nearby dive school. A female diver had sustained head injuries and was taken to the Netcare Kingsway hospital for emergency treatment by private transport while the other divers were not injured in the accident.
Medics later transferred the female diver with serious head injuries to the Netcare Umhlanga hospital for the specialised care that she required.
