Man Killed In Vehicle Rollover in Pietermaritzburg

A man in his 30’s has been killed after rolling his vehicle on Durban Street in Pietermaritzburg.

Witnesses to the incident said that the vehicle may have struck the curb before the driver lost control. The vehicle then swerved and rolled. The driver was ejected from the front of the vehicle.

ER24 PMB paramedics, who were responding to another motor vehicle accident on the N3, came across the accident where the Mercedes had rolled. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for the man, he was already deceased.

Three children who were in the car at the time were a bit shaken but fortunately uninjured. The two girls and boy, all aged between 6 and 10, were left in the care of the police at the scene while waiting for their families to collect them.

At this stage it is not clear as to the relation between the man and the children. It is believed that he was taking them home from school.

Paramedics continued to the accident on the N3 at Market street where a taxi had rolled due to unknown reason. The taxi was lying in the road, and the 11 occupants had sustained minor to moderate injuries. All of the occupants were found walking around the scene. They were assessed for their various injuries and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Traffic is slow in the direction of both Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
