A serious incident occurred this afternoon when a skydiver was injured whilst attempting to jump out of a plane in the skies above Melkbosstrand.
ER24 paramedics were dispatched to an open field roughly four kilometers past the Koeberg PowerStation on the R27, West Coast rd. Upon arriving at the scene they found the skydiver standing upright and complaining about pain to his back.
The skydiver then alleged that whilst jumping from the plain he collided with the tail of the airplane sustaining the injury.
Due to the distance of the scene to the nearest appropriate medical facility and the terrain, the paramedics promptly dispatched the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene. The man was then treated at the scene before being fully immobilized and transported to hospital in a stable condition.
