One passenger has been killed after a truck hit a taxi that was ferrying passengers on the busy Nelson Mandela Drive in the Mthatha CBD in the Eastern Cape. Arrive Alive spokesperson Tsepho Machaea says the driver apparently lost control of his truck, hit the taxi and damaged three other parked vehicles.
“Although it is not yet clear but it looks like the truck hit a bump and lost control and went off the road. It then hit the taxi first and went straight into a house but fortunately no one died. However one passenger of the taxi died.”
Two survivors describe the incident, “We just heard a big sound of a truck and then we hear the truck coming in my house. We do not know where to stay now, but we praise the Lord because we are safe. This truck was coming from the opposite direction approaching the humps, it just jumped and collided on the side with the taxi and one passenger died.”
