A sixty seven year old man had a narrow escape after crashing his Corsa bakkie on the N3 south bound into the pillar of the Black Bourgh Bridge in Scottsville this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the bakkie in the centre medium and the driver seated on the floor at the back of the vehicle. The man examined by the emergency personnel and found that he had suffered neck and back injuries. He was placed on a specialised board and transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a serious but stable condition.
It is believed that the Corsa bakkie may have had mechanical problems causing the driver to lose control and crash into the left hand pillar of the brigde before it catapulted across the freeway in to the centre medium and coming to rest. The driver was able to climb out the back window before the emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
Traffic was slightly affected but all necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident further.
