Three men were seriously injured when they were struck by a motorcycle on a side-road off Mayor’s Walk in Pietermaritzburg this evening.
The cause of the accident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that a wayward motorcyclist had left the road and slammed into a group of men at the roadside.
The force of impact threw the men forward and the rider fell from his bike. The seriously injured men were found lying on the pavement near the motorcycle, the rider of which had fled the scene on foot.
The men were treated and stabilised at the scene by Netcare911 Paramedics before they were transported by ambulance to various hospitals in the provincial capital for the medical attention that they required.
