Twenty one people commuters have been injured after the fully laden taxi over turned on the N3 Durban bound near the M13 turn off this morning.
ER24 paramedics who were travelling towards Durban had just got to the top of the Key Ridge when they came across the accident. The taxi at the time was lying on its side in the centre medium and there were people stuck underneath. The paramedics along with the members of public that witnessed the accident pushed the vehicle back onto its wheels to try and save the entrapped commuters.
One person unfortunately had already lost his life in the collision. Two people were in a critical condition and needed advanced life support intervention. They had sustained massive trauma and needed to be intubated and placed on a ventilator to help them breath. They were stabilised and transported to Albert Luthuli Nkosi Hospital in a critical condition where specialised trauma staff were waiting for them.
Seven commuters sustained serious injuries, while eleven others sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were all stabilised and taken by road to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.
It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control but the necessary authorities were on the scene from all departments and would be investigating the accident further.
