A serious accident on the Golden Highway near Del Fos Road in Vanderbijlpark has left a man dead and another man in a critical condition.
ER24 paramedics arrive at the scene to find a young man lying on the road near a VW Citi Golf which was completely smashed in at the front. The man, believed to be in his 20’s had suffered massive injury and was dead at the scene. An Audi sedan was a few meters away and was also extensively damaged in the front. An man in his 50’s was found trapped in the drivers seat having suffered critical injuries. The Fire and Rescue team immediately began cutting the vehicle with the Jaws of Life while the ER24 paramedics treated the man for life threatening injuries. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called to the scene to assist with the transportation of the man to hospital.
The passenger in the Audi was left with minor injuries, and after being checked by paramedics at the scene he decided he would go through to hospital privately if required later.
Another man was found walking around at the scene. He had been the driver of a white bakkie which was also involved in the accident. The man was treated for minor injuries and taken to hospital by ambulance.
It was determined that the Golf and bakkie had been travelling in the same direction when the driver of the Golf suddenly lost control of his vehicle, collided into the bakkie and then head on into the Audi. The exact caused of the accident will however need to be investigated by the necessary officials who attended the scene.
