A serious collision between two minibus taxis has left eighteen people injured in Bellville this morning.
The collision occurred at the corners of Old Paarl rd and Delahey were the two taxis met at high-speed in the middle of an intersection. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they were astonished at the amount of damaged sustained by the vehicles which collided head on.
With local fire and rescue services and Metro ambulance services arriving at the scene moments later a total of eighteen patients form the scene needed to be treated and transported to hospital. Most of the occupants from the two taxis sustained only minor injuries in the form of multiple scrapes and bruises.
Two occupants from the one taxi, the driver and front passenger, were stuck in the front of the wrecked taxi as the metal and rubber had entrapped the two patients. Fire and rescue services extricated the patients with the use of specialized rescue equipment.
Both patients sustained severe injuries to their lower extremities and received on-scene treatment before being transported to a nearby medical facility. Local law enforcement authorities were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
