Seven people died in two “gruesome” accidents at the weekend, the KZN transport, community safety and liaison department said on Sunday.
The first accident occurred in Babanango on Saturday, resulting in the death of five people, spokesperson Kwanele Ncalene said.
“It is alleged that the SUV in which there were travelling in, was trying to avoid another vehicle when it collided head on with a Toyota Quantum on R618.
“Four people died on the scene and one later died in hospital. All five were on the SUV and it is believed there were from uMembeso of a relative. Five others who were critical were taken to KwaMagwaza Hospital.”
Two people died on the Dundee P35/1 and Dunhauser intersection, also on Saturday. That accident also involved an SUV and a light motor vehicle, in a sideswipe collision.
