A man in his 60’s has been killed after a head on collision on the R511 at the Brits road turnoff near Laezonia in Tshwane.
ER24 Paramedics arrived to find the front of the Mercedes Benz completely crushed underneath the front of the refrigerator truck. They immediately went to the vehicle to determine the extent of injuries to the vehicle’s occupants, but sadly, due to the extent of damage to the front compartment of the vehicle, the driver and only occupant of the car had not survived the impact. He had sustained multiple injuries and was entrapped in the wreckage. The man’s lifeless body needed to be cut from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life and there was nothing further that could be done for him. He was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was found to be walking around on scene and after assessment was found to have sustained no physical injuries.
It is not clear as to what the cause of this accident was, but the section of road where the accident happened is a single lane carriageway and is very narrow in places.
The SAP were at the scene for accident investigation purposes.
