A driver and passenger had a narrow escape from been seriously injured after the car they were in left the road and collided into a street pole and a residential wall. The incident took place on Marriate Road between Musgrave and Essenwood Road this afternoon.
When Emergency personnel arrived on the scene they found the light motor vehicle wedged between the light pole and a residential wall. It almost looked like it was hanging in mid air from one of the angles. Both occupants of the car had already climbed out of the vehicle by the time emergency personnel arrived on the scene. The passenger who was complaining of neck and back pains was treated for possible whip lash. She was placed on a spinal board and carried to the ambulance. The driver sustained very minor bruising and abrasions. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for a general medical examination.
It is believed that the light motor vehicle started to have mechanical problems while coming down the hill from Essenwood Road side. The driver avoided another car and a tree before he slammed into the light pole and wall. Metro Police, SAPS and Fire Department were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
