A security guard is in a critical condition and six other people have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a collision involving three cars occurred at the intersection of Pietermaritz and West Street in Pietermaritzburg CBD this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene and found the three vehicles still in the intersection and obstructing the road in either direction. The security guard was found lying on the road and in a very critical condition. Advanced life support intervention had to be performed due to the severity of the patient’s injuries. Once he was stabilised, he was transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a critical condition where the trauma staff were waiting to take over the medical care of the patient.
The remaining patients were from the other two light motor vehicles. They were examined and treated on the scene and were transported to Northdale Hospital for various lacerations and abrasions that they had sustained from the accident.
It is unclear who was at fault but it is believed that with the impact of the accident, the security guard was ejected through the front windscreen and landed in to the road. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
