A twenty two year old research diver from America has sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a shark on the Natal South coast. Reports from the divers indicate that they were diving on the Aliwal shoal observing the sardines when a three meter dusky shark bit the man on his left leg.
Quick thinking of the skipper by removing the diver from the water and stopping the bleeding definitely saved the young man’s life today. Netcare 911 and the provincial paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the divers left leg and both hands had sustained serious injuries.
Medics worked ardently to stabilize the critically wounded man before airlifting him to the Nkosi Albert Luthuli hospital for the care that he required.
