Worker trapped in conveyor belt

WOODSTOCK 14 July 2011, 10:15

A serious incident at a well-known food and goods store in Woodstock has left one worker with injuries.

A man aged 21 was removing parcels off of a heavy duty conveyer belt when his hand allegedly slipped from a parcel into the conveyor belt’s rolling mechanism. The man had sustained severe injuries to his right arm as the conveyer belt continued to turn entrapping him further into the mechanism. Fellow workers who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to the aid of their colleague and switched off the machine.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, the Provincial Department of Health: Emergency Medical Services, Rescue services was busy disassembling the machine in order to free the injured worker.

Once the man was freed from the machine, he was treated at the scent before being transported to the Life Vincent Pallotti hospital for further medical care.
