Newborn found on rubbish dump

A startling discovery was made this evening when a newly born baby was found wrapped in a plastic packet on a pile of rubbish in Boom road, Pietermaritzburg.

A group of children were playing a few meters away from the rubbish dump when they noticed weeping sounds coming from the rubbish. Upon investigating the origins of the cries they found the approximately 1 week old baby boy wrapped in a plastic bag with formula food and pack of disposable diapers.

Startled at the discovery the children ran across the road to a day care where they informed a lady of the baby. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they immediately attended to the infant. The baby had remarkably sustained no bodily harm, but was found to be extremely hungry.

The infant was then transported to the Northdale hospital for further medical care. Local law enforcement authorities who also attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
