Numerous children become ill at a primary school in Strand

STRAND 28 July 2011, 13:00

A serious incident has occurred this afternoon at a primary school in Strand.

ER24 emergency services received a call that some of the pupils had suddenly become ill and were in need of medical care. The exact reason for the mass medical case is still unknown.

Approximately 50 of the pupils had allegedly ingested some sort of sugary treat at around 10:00 this morning. Then roughly an hour later the pupils started exhibiting symptoms which included headaches, stomach cramps and a sudden onset of nausea and vomiting.

ER24 and the Western Cape Provincial Department of Health: Emergency Medical Services then treated the children at the scene. All the children were then transported to a nearby medical facility for further medical care.
