[PIETERMARITZBURG – 29 JULY 2011 AT 11H00]
A twenty five year female is in a serious condition after falling into a river that goes under the Orthman Road just outside Pietermaritzburg this morning.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene and found that bystanders had already pulled the young lady out of the water and had carried her to the road side. Paramedics quickly assessed her and found that she was in a serious condition. She had suffered possible spinal injuries and hypothermia. Advanced life support intervention had to be performed on the patient for further stabilisation. Once the patient was fully stabilised she was transported to Northdale Hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical care.
ER24 would like to give there thanks to the bystanders that rescued the woman from the river, if it was not for their quick thinking and response the patient may have drowned or her injuries would have been a lot more severe. It is uncertain what lead the woman to fall into the river but the local authorities would be notified to follow up on the incident.
