A bakkie travelling on Main Reef Road in Roodepoort was crashed into by a taxi this afternoon at the intersection of Sterkfontein Road. We are not clear on the exact details of the accident as they will be determined by the Police who are investigating the incident.
The taxi crashed into the passenger side of the bakkie, and when paramedics arrived at the scene the initial perception from the visual damage to the vehicle was that it had been a minor accident. As they approached the people that had been in the two vehicles, they were shown to where a 40 year old man was sitting on the pavement. The man was complaining of severe pain to his back and had said that he had gotten out of the driver’s seat by himself. He had allegedly sat down almost immediately as the pain in his back was excruciating.
Paramedics called in the ER24 Discovery Medicopter as the man’s symptoms upon assessment were indicative of a possible serious back injury. The man was airlifted to Mediclinic Sandton for further treatment.
The bakkie’s passenger and all of the occupants of the taxi had suffered no physical injury and left the scene with other private transport.
